Kimitsu hides away from the couple in the bathroom. She takes Alexandra Kelley's fancy Nikon camera with her under the pretense of taking some selfies after a cold dip in the lake. She mussed up her wet multi toned hair and pouted her lips drunkenly at Alexandra and her fiance Nick but the truth was that she was only a little tipsy and needed to be alone.
It was a long day of training. Alexandra Kelly was as active as possible for being a retired wrestler. She spent some of her time passing on her knowledge to others and Kimitsu was one of the lucky few to receive it. Today's lessons were drilling in submissions and doing some light sparring. Kimitsu was focused and tried to impress one of the people she looked up to. She occupied her mind with trying to look calm and collected instead of actually being anything but.
Annoyances always seemed to manifest themselves in physical ways with her. It might of been psychological but she wasn't a doctor and didn't really look for a reason. Sometimes it was a twitch of the eyes or an itch on her shoulders. This time a worm got in her head and it was digging into her brain all day. She tried to ignore it but she never could when these things happened.
A hard smack to her face by The Pixie always brought her out of her head. Alexandra was still as fierce as ever and seemed not to like that Kimitsu was spacing out. Kimitsu ignored the pulsing ache in her head and tried to focus on the drills. Now that they were all over she could let it all out and try to scratch the itch.
The reactions she was getting for her latest promotional video were mixed. A lot of people got it and celebrated but there was a higher amount of backlash and death threats this time. Letting the flag catch fire while lighting her cigarette was her only mistake. She cycled through her phone while walking through the house to the bathroom and realized she was sorry for none of it. Either way, she usually loved the messages and did manage to smile and laugh at some of the responses but one of them hit too close. She fiddled about with the camera trying to make it record and we go to a closeup shot of her face. She gives up and sets us down then stares at herself in the mirror.
Kimitsu shuts her eyes and holds onto the edge of the countertop in a white knuckled grip. She opens her mouth and her faces contorts in a silent scream of rage. Her whole body strains in frustration and she only lets out a whisper of a wail. She stomps on the ground before the tension is released and she is left breathing heavily and shaking. She peeks makes sure the door is closed and peeks out of the window before trying to appear completely calm. She takes a deep breath and practices a placid look in the mirror before she presses a button on the camera to start recording but all it does is puts on a filter that makes everything glossy and more colorful. She sits down against the edge of the bathtub with her arms hugging her knees and pauses for a moment to gather her thoughts.
"Shame is something that I can only feel in front of one person. This is the man that is more of a father to me than my dad is. He is more of a teacher than my mom is. He is someone I can count on to call me out on my shit if I go too far. There's always the fear that Tokyo-sensei will disown me the further I go in my own journey but luckily I haven't gone that far yet. I know that I am a reluctant addition to the clan but I am still proud of it. I don't always uphold his credo with my actions but I do in spirit. I just do it in my own way to obtain the same goals. The only goals that matter for me now are to win.
"I'll do it any way possible. Any means and such. I know it's a cheap trick but I said what I said about the whole of the South to get to you, Radford. It doesn't make it any less of a truth. I know that everywhere is horrible and has a sordid past but you and yours are unique in the way they hide it. You try to be a Southern gentleman through and through but that is just a front. That is all some people are. Fronts. I learned this long ago as a child."
She starts to brush her hair out of her face but keeps her head lowered.
"You know the tale but I am more than what you say I am. Don't compare me to simple bullies. I did once have an affair with being petty and mean for fun but then I went to high school. I grew out of that and evolved. I become more enlightened with every encounter I have and I see the world for what it really is. The reason I am so harsh with you, Country Fine, is to expose you to this reality. The truth that you are trying so hard to deny is that we are all monsters and the only thing that matters is who is left standing in the end."
She nods and looks back up.
"Pity from someone like you is unnecessary. I can do a good job of that on myself but I have good people on my corner like you said. The only pure ones that live without fronts are those that have gone far beyond their limits like Uncle Aoki and Tokyo. Still trying to get there myself and they are the only ones I have to answer to. Don't ever suggest that I am not worthy of the name. I didn't let you down I just broke your perception of me and I'll keep on doing it. In our match I will break the audience's perception of you. Everything I said is true and you shouldn't judge me or mine based on what you think you see.
"To me being a Zombie means that I have looked through the veil. We see the world for what it is and we actively fight it to make it right. The truth is the world isn't a good place and we don't delude ourselves with dreams and wishful thinking. We act. So yes, I think you being a son of the South makes you a uniquely delusional bastard. The culture gave you this air of being so above it all but deep down I know you have that hate. I wasn't trying to shame you by mentioning all those years of being a loser. I was telling you why you should break free from this air of trashy nobility and be the bastard I know you are. That will be my mission in the match. I'll grab that nose you hold so high and rub it into the dirt to make you see me. You can shake my hand and pat my head all you want but I'll hurt you until you scream. I'll make these people see what you are. You won't be able to control me but afterwards you'll thank me."
Kimitsu finally smiles and crosses her legs to appear more relaxed.
"I truly think I'll be helping you. After I push you far enough out of your zone that you might actually try to kill me in this match you won't be able to go back to faking that nice guy attitude. Don't compare yourself to DiBona. His struggles aren't your struggles. He's a man with natural ability and you plainly are not. You shouldn't be nice to him and want to shake his hand. You should curse his name and bide your time until you can defeat him. You should do the same to me after I beat you. We don't improve by snapping our fingers and saying 'Gosh darn I should have had him,' we improve by using our anger to push ourselves onward. We don't rationalize either. You are a failure for losing in the Paramount Championship tournament and you should feel bad because you wanted that title. Look, I know anger can lead a person to dark places but it can also be used as the motivation to achieve your goals.
"James Radford, you might think that this is a sad way to live and to see the world but it is really the honest way. We push ourselves to be nice and civilized in order to function in society. I was in the process of running away from this by being a delinquent in my younger days and it finally died when I became a Zombie. I was running towards this fact this whole time and I'll show you what it made me into. You're right, we both have our histories and come from similar places. Shit, we're even coincidentally training with one of our idols for the match, wel... mines is better, right? Anyways, the only difference between us is that I'm armed with the truth. I'll ram this into your brain even if I have to open your scalp up to do it. Then you'll be one step closer to what we Zombies call enlightenment."
Kimitsu smiles sweetly into the camera then changes her expression when she hears a voice outside the door.
"No, I'm not talking to myself. I'll be right out."
She grabs the camera and presses a button to stop recording but it only removes the glossy filter from the image. She opens the door and hands the camera off and we see Kimitsu sideways.
"Hey, can you get me a copy of that so I can submit it?"
The shot rolls around for a bit and we catch a glimpse of Pixie before she presses the right button to stop recording.
