Stevenson: The top of the mountain, you know, when I first made that reference about my Triple Crown Championship win in Knoxville; I never thought it would become a “thing” but it did thanks to Tony Chu.
However, since the word cliche was tossed around a little bit, don't you think it's cliche to film a promo from the top of an imaginary mountain?
Taking a moment to pause, he leans forward resting his large arms over the back of a chair. Dressed casually, he lowers his head for a moment and then brings it back up with a smirk expressed.
Stevenson: My guess is no since you did it but here's what gets me Benny. Why is it cool for you to utilize something so cliche but you told me not to? Well here's our biggest problem Benny, I’m going to give you that cliche answer simply because that's just how it is. Yes, I love this business, just like you do and sometimes that's all you need to fulfill your cravings. This business? Man, it's like a drug, it's damn near impossible to stay away, I have tried and the mere thrill of it all, the strong love that I have for this business always reels me back in.
Speaking with conviction, he pauses for a brief moment.
Stevenson: I know, that's not the answer you wanted to hear but like I said Benny, it doesn't matter because it's the truth. Sometimes the truth is so cliche and that's just how it goes down.
Now… It's true, when I first stepped foot inside this company? I came in with this thought that I would put Dominic down and he beat me, that's just how it goes but when you stop to look at the big picture? Dominic Lawson was barely considered an afterthought here until I came in and MADE him into a star. Go ahead and call it arrogance but the reality of the situation is that it's true.
That loss to Lawson? It didn't hurt me here or in the industry. I still go home to one of my mansions, I still have the most beautiful women, I still have all of my cars, my money, all of my accolades and of course: I still have my legacy.
With a large grin slowly forming along his face, he cocks his head to the side and continues to speak.
Stevenson: Now yes, it's true, most of the responses that I receive on Twitter are negative but that's because most of the people know for a FACT that they will NEVER measure up to the kind of success that I have had and will continue to have until I decide to retire.
You’re a VERY gifted athlete Benny, you really are and you have survived longer than a good majority of the people before you. Answer me this however, can you sit back and tell everyone that you will be the GREATEST wrestler that the industry has ever seen?
Shrugging his shoulders, he is incredibly genuine right now.
Stevenson: Maybe! I can't answer that and you know what Benny; neither can you.
Maybe you will go on to become the GREATEST wrestler in the industry or maaaaaybe — you will suffer a career ending injury that puts you out to pasture. Regardless, you want the kind of legacy that I have, you want to be recognized as THEE BEST and let me tell you: it's an amazing feeling to have but you have one BIG obstacle in your way Benny, ME and I’m not going to have my shoulders pinned to the canvas nor will I tap out.
You want a legacy?
You're well on your way to achieving that but there will ALWAYS be a blemish on your record, one that bugs you, one that lingers around you until the day you decide to retire and that is the fact that Benny Stevens, while great isn't Drew Stevenson and he never will be.
Speaking with conviction, he slowly nods his head and immediately continues to speak, not missing a single beat.
Stevenson: The same goes for Amis and Tommy as well. They're great athletes, very hungry like you but those bumps you referenced? Trust me, I can still take just as many as I could back in my rookie year, hell, maybe even more because yeah, I have been in the industry for eleven years but my physical prowess is better than it has ever been.
But let me ask you guys a question, how are YOU going to fare when I’m dropping you with Suplex after Suplex? Because let me tell you, if you're eating painkillers now Benny then just wait until after our match when you're feeling the affects of every single Suplex that I drop you with. Wait until you guys are trapped in the middle of the ring, locked in a nasty submission hold and you get SO CLOSE to reaching the bottom rope only to have your entire body dragged to the center of the ring.
What do you do then, huh?
Do you tap out and live to fight another day or do you fight, crawl, bite and do everything in your power to reach the bottom rope but possibly suffer an injury?
Smiling, he quickly rises to his feet.
Stevenson: No matter what you say you’ll do NOW, I promise, that plan will change once you're in the worst pain of your life and realize that you have NOWHERE to go; bank on it!
With nothing left to say, he smiles one last time and walks off.
