It’s a few days after Christmas and Candy is out and about doing errands around town. She is just stepping out of one of the stores with a few grocery bags in hand when her cell phone rings. Upon hearing it, Candy shifts the bags into one hand while she reaches into her back pocket for her phone. When she sees the incoming call, Candy smiles at the picture the screen before hitting the button and put it on speaker as she walks on over toward her car.
“Hey Chris. How’s it going?”
“Not bad. Just thought I’d check up on you with everything that’s going on.”
“Aww, that’s quite sweet. Don’t worry about me, I’m doing just fine. Making sure to stay busy.”
“That’s understandable.”
From the other end, Chris could probably hear the shuffling of bags as Candy loaded them into the car.
“Yeah. Besides, I really can’t get all mopey dopey with my debut coming up. You’re still coming up to see it, right?”
“Sure am. I was thinking I’d fly in the day before. That way we can hang out and talk about what we need to.”
“Sounds like a plan. I’d love to run through some strategies with you.”
“Um, Candy. That’s not what I meant.”
“I know what you meant, dearie.”, she sighs a bit heavily as she takes her seat behind the wheel, “But I can’t afford to get emotional now. I need to be focused and ready. So I’m keeping my mind on the important things. Like this match.”
“Well, if that’s what you need from me. I’ll help in any way I can.”
“Excellent.”
Candy said while closing the car door after herself. But didn’t bother starting the car as she goes about her conversation.
“It’s going to be so great to have you there. Knowing you’re there cheering me on is going to give me the extra strength I need to keep on pushing toward that victory! Even when I’m down.”
“I’ll be the loudest person in there. Just like you were for me.”
“I was hoping you’d say that!”
“It’s the least I can do.”
Candy responds with a little giggle.
“Well, I look forward to seeing you there. Going to be a great night. We’ll be celebrating for sure before it’s all over. Be seeing you in Ohio!”
“Talk soon, Candy!”
Once the call was over, Candy puts her cell phone aside as she starts up the car and heads back to her condo with her purchases.
==================
“You didn’t think all I did was eat candy, did you?”
After dropping off the groceries, Candy made her way to the gym. Right now, sitting on one of the benches looking a little sweaty with a towel draped over her shoulder.
“Sorry to be the bearer of bad news. But the truth is, I like winning as much as I like my sweets. So I’m going to come into this prepared. I’m going to come into this match ready to fight. I know that might not mean too much to you right now. You are probably thinking the same thing all my opponents from other places have thought before stepping in the ring with me. I’m too small. I’m too sweet. I’m never going to measure up. I’ve really heard it all before.”, she shakes her head while sighing, “It’s really a shame because I am a talented individual. All you got to do is look past the obvious and give me a fair shake. But if you can’t do that, I promise you’ll be changing your opinion of me just minutes after that bell rings!”
Candy’s tone was serious as she wiped the sweat from her face with the corner of the towel.
“From that moment, you will know that I didn’t come to AWE to play games. That I mean business. This isn’t going to turn out like before. I’m not about to scratch and claw my way around just to get nowhere. I'm not about to let myself falter. I've had enough of that! Come Massacre, I'm going to take a stand and make sure I stand out. So that by the time I'm through, the people in charge around here will know what kind of talent they got on their hands. A darn good one!"
Candy nods her head.
"Now don't get me wrong, I know Brandon and Bindy are pretty talented themselves. I'm sure they're going to give me quite the fight when we meet up in the ring for the New Year. Looking forward to it, quite honestly. I mean, if I'm going to win...I want to know that I've earned it. So I want them to bring their A-game. I promise I'm going to be ready for it!"
Candy seems pretty determined as she goes on.
"I''ll be ready for just about anything come Massacre. Which is why I need to be getting back to my workout. Preparation is key, after all."
Candy keeps her eyes focused on her phone as she stares into it. After a long moment, Candy ends the video feed and uploads it to the AWE website before putting it away as she gets up from the bench to go about her workout.
