Benny Stevens has been going through an emotional roller-coaster lately. Truth is the man's already destructive when he’s on a good state of mind, let alone when he's feeling chaotic on the inside. Today's one of those chaotic days. It’s sunny but cold, we see the man himself sitting on the edge of his 1976 Cadillac Coupe DeVille’s hood – a present given by his agent whom has earned Benny’s full trust, a rarity due to his history with crooked managers. His hand slides over his goatee as he looks into the camera.
“Words are powerful, man.”
Benny points at the camera.
“Oh, Bindy... Words are powerful, m’lady!”
He did say the short of milady – the influence of the Valentine’s Day! We can tell that he’s just kidding due to his playful chuckle followed by a head shake.
“Did YOU catch what you said about yourself, Bindy? Y’know, I’ma tell ya… I’m not the smartest guy in the room – a known fact for some, I suppose. I mean, neither of us is perfect. I’m one of the most handsome guys around and goddamn talented in the ring, but if you want me to talk about some Einstein shit then you’d better leave it be. Unless you’re bringing a couple of blunts and willingness to have fun, of course. I mean, holla at me, Mrs. Trent!”
He winks and smirks confidently; however, he gets serious quickly.
“Anyway, fortunately, I don’t even have to be smart to influence people… That’s just how powerful I am, Bindy. That’s just how powerful my words are. Once again, Benny plays the music and his opponent dances accordingly – now, please, make no mistake. I don’t intend to be disrespectful, but I gotta tell ya that you got baited and probably ain’t even notice so. See, I don’t really think that you were certain of yourself on your first video. You're a goofy wrestler that needs to prove yourself to the masses and have some fun while doing it…
... But you’re not confident at all about yourself, are you? Something's wrong. Something just doesn’t sound right about you. Have you noticed that you’re always the one being inspired by your opponents? It’s never the otherwise. Me? Whether they wanna admit it or not, I inspired a bunch of people on the roster. Take a look at Austin Gale... I made him realize how much of a stalking bitch he was and, hey, he doesn’t even mention my name anymore. I’m not saying that’s a big accomplishment, though. Gale's a sexist dipshit and your words about him were on point.
Thing is you’re always the one seeking validation from the opponents. I had to compliment you just so you could finally realize that you’re one the big four on the roster. Now, you’re either pretending to be that kinda person or you definitely lack that self-confidence. The fact that you were fighting Fantana made you feel good about that fight, Dare’s attitude when it comes to his interactions with you made you feel good about that fight… And now my polite words makes you feel good about our fight.
Y’see the pattern?”
Benny leans toward the camera a bit and turns his head a bit to the side.
“I inspired you to do better, huh?”
Back to his former position.
“Obviously, that’s my main objective… I want you to be a complete fighter, Bindy. Sounds kinda stupid coming from a guy that's been wrestling for only a year, but trust me, I may not be the smartest, but I ain’t stupid. You need more than a good attitude to be a Champion and fact is a good attitude won’t get you far. You want an example? Take a look at my beginning in the AWE.
Horrible beginning… Honestly? I’m a good guy. I fuck up sometimes but my intentions are good-natured. Just don’t fuck with me and you’re fine – ask Dom Lawson! My biggest mistake was going into matches with a good attitude, Bindy… I was being blinded by a tunnel vision and I had to change that shit. Now I want you to do the same and that’s the reason I complimented you so much.
I was being sincere. I do respect you as a strong contender and will NOT underestimate you. But you’ve gotta realize that you’re not fit to be a Champion yet, Bindy. I feel like the outcome of this match will get one of us a step closer to a Championship match, I mean, you beat the current Champion and I beat the First Contender. There’s no doubt that we’re the next ones on the line. But it’s about being mentally prepared for a fuckin' battle against the whole roster.
Now, how can you be ready to deal with the goddam roster when you ain’t even ready to accept the fact that you’re one of the best? That’s a loser mentality, Bindy… And I ain’t even hating. I’ve been there so I know what you need to do. I’ll be nice and give you the recipe.
What you need to do is learn from me.
You want to best me? Then you’d better add resilience to your repertoire. Like you said, a good attitude won’t be a factor in the match… Resilience will.”
Benny gets up to his feet and pulls his Magnum from its holster. He aims at an object far away as the camera adjusts behind his back. Once it zooms in, we can see the Bend-Me Bindy action figure hanging as a target. The screen is split – on the left side we see Benny unlocking his revolver and aiming at the object, while the right side shows the object.
He shoots right on target – the action figure gets behead by the .500 cartridge. A loud noise echoes. Benny turns his face to the camera as a smoke flows out of the revolver’s barrel.
“And I’ve got plenty of resilience, Bindy… I’ll see ya in Springfield!”
Black screen.
