"So, as I was saying, this is potentially the biggest turn in my career..."
Dominic Law is sitting at a table in an empty diner, if it wasn't for the cute redhead waiter standing next to him, as he's eating what looks like the unhealthiest burger ever conceived by a human mind. The clock on the wall marks 3:15 pm, too late for lunch and way too early for dinner. Not that Dominic seems to mind... He's literally devouring it, uncaring about the colored sauces dripping from every side and pickles falling on the floor like autumn leaves, just like if this is his first meal in days. Which, considering his precarious lifestyle, could not be too far from truth.
"And what's the company name?"
Maybe it's the slow day at work, or the lack of other customers, but the girl seems very interested in keeping up the conversation. Which is odd, considering she is young, probably in her early 20's or even younger, and definitely attractive, while Lawson, on the other hand looks older than his 34 and is not a charming man by most women's standards.
"AWE, which stands for Alpha Wrestling... something! But that's not important actually. What I really care about is that this house is built on solid ground, the mysterious owner, whoever he is, has some deep pockets and that's all I could ask for. It's what I need, what I deserve after years of literally fighting for food. And you can bet your ass I'm not going to screw this up."
With a candid smile, she asks him if he'd like more coffee. He nods, staring at her as she walks behind the counter swaying her hips and coming back with the same beautiful smile. She leans forward, filling his glass with some coffee, giving Dom the chance he was waiting for to peek at said ass, asking himself if she actually did it on purpose and praying God the answer is yes.
"You seem interested, do you want me to see if I can get you a ticket? Being the first show and all, I don't think it will be sold-out."
"I don't know, I'm not a big wrestling fan... To be honest, I used to bore myself to death watching my ex as he wrestled for the college team..."
"Don't worry, what we do in pro wrestling is completely different from the what you are used to. Plus, you got to see a bunch of half-naked men fighting... Or women if you swing that way..."
Her sharp and clear laughter resounds in the empty restaurant, covering the pop song playing from the radio.
"Haha, no don't worry. I do like men, even more if they have athletic and toned bodies! We have a deal then, you earned yourself a fan cheering for you that night! You said you will fight in a threesome, right?"
This time it's Dominic who can't hold a laughter, while the young girl stares at him a bit puzzled.
"It's a Triple Threat... A threesome is something different, even though, considering that my opponents are two ladies, definitely a more enjoyable scenario..."
Realizing what she just hinted to, the young girl lower her eyes blushing a bit.
"Wait, are you fighting two girls? How's that fair?"
"Don't let this fool you. They both are more than qualified to kick most of men's asses... But not mine. I did my research, and I know how to deal with them. Kimitsu Zombie has been trained by one of the great in this business; unlike her master Tokyo though, she is not afraid to bend the rules a bit. Her innate aggression is something I should look out for in this match, even though she's trying to hold it back recently. She's definitely a dangerous girl who wants to make a name for herself, and make it quick. But guess what? So am I..."
"And what about the other one?"
"Trinity Jones? Her accomplishments speak for themselves, she's been a multi-time women champion and she's not stranger to intergender competition. I heard she's a great grappler, and I should really watch out for her submission game. I know how to take a beating, but my joints are not those of the good ol' days. I don't want to spend my first weeks in this company dealing with unutterable pain because some bitches bent my body in ways it wasn't meant to be. Especially since I plan to wrestle another match in the same night. A title match nonetheless."
"But you are a champion too, right?"
"Who me? Haha, a long time ago... Too long. But the key factor in this match is not who we were, but who we are now. I am not someone who's trying to walk back on the righteous path to please anyone, I am not someone who needs to walk out from my siblings' shadow. I am older than both of them, but I'm also hungrier..."
"I can see that!" She says staring at the now empty plate
"You can't understand how being hungry really is, until you scratch the bottom. That's where I am now, that's why I will win my match, move to the main event and walk out as the first Resilience Champion. Not because I want it, but because I need it."
He slams the right hand on the table, revealing a 20 $ note as he removes it.
"And when I do, I can promise your tip will be far more generous. Thanks for everything."
Adjusting his beret on his head and picking up his distressed gym bag, he makes his way out of the diner, stopping one last time on the door looking back at the young girl clearing the table.
"What's your name again?"
"Georgia" Says the girl with a smile that could melt ice.
Winking at her, Dominic finally leaves the restaurant.
